Double Degree Programme between Mechatronics (Universität Stuttgart) and Mechatronics and Smart Technology Engineering (Università degli studi di Bergamo)

This page provides information for students from the Universität Stuttgart who are interested in spending their second year at the Università degli studi di Bergamo within the Double Degree Programme. Students enrolled at the Università degli studi di Bergamo can find details about the outgoing mobility on a dedicated page.

The Double Degree Programme between the Universität Stuttgart and the Università degli studi di Bergamo offers Master’s students in Mechatronics a unique opportunity to gain an international academic experience and obtain two master’s degrees: the Master of Science in Mechatronics from the Universität Stuttgart and the Laurea Magistrale in Mechatronics and Smart Technology Engineering from the Università degli studi di Bergamo.

Programme overview

The programme combines advanced academic training with an intercultural experience in two European universities. The study period at the Università degli studi di Bergamo is entirely taught in English, and students carry out courses and research activities jointly supervised by professors from both institutions.

Structure

Students enrolled in the Master’s programme in Mechatronics at the Universität Stuttgart spend their first academic year in Stuttgart and their second year at the Università degli studi di Bergamo. For their stay in Italy, they can choose to follow one of the two available curricula of the Master’s programme in Mechatronics and Smart Technology Engineering:

  • Mechatronics
  • Smart Technology Engineering

Both study paths include courses entirely taught in English and jointly recognized by the two universities. During the second year in Bergamo, students complete 60 ECTS credits, which include:

  • Two advanced courses among Advanced Manufacturing Technologies and Mechatronic Systems and Advanced Robotic Applications or Advanced Manufacturing Technologies and IT Architecture in Production.
  • A practical and research-oriented activity (Mechatronics Systems Lab or Smart Technology Lab), equivalent to the Research Project in Stuttgart.
  • The Master’s Thesis, jointly supervised by professors from both institutions and defended at the end of the mobility period.

The credits earned in Bergamo are fully recognized by the Universität Stuttgart, resulting in an equivalent 60 ECTS workload for the second year.

Admission requirements

To apply, students must be regularly enrolled in the MSc in Mechatronics at the Universität Stuttgart. Before starting their study period in Bergamo, they must have successfully completed at least 45 ECTS. A B2 level of English is required, while knowledge of Italian is not mandatory.

Application process

The selection process is carried out according to the procedures and timeline established by the Universität Stuttgart. Interested students should refer to their home university for detailed information on application requirements and deadlines. Successful applicants will spend their second academic year at the Università degli studi di Bergamo, starting in September.
